Every X video ships in several sizes
When a video is posted, X transcodes it into more than one variant so it can start playing quickly on a slow connection. There is usually a compact version for fast starts and a larger, higher-bitrate version for the player that has already buffered. “HD” in this context does not mean a magic 4K file — it means the largest variant X decided to keep for that post.
What decides how good your file can be
- What the poster uploaded. If the source was 720p, that is the ceiling. No tool exceeds the master.
- Which variant you grabbed. Choosing the biggest listed entry is the one free win available to you.
- Post length. Long uploads are sometimes stored at a lower bitrate than short ones to keep storage sane.
How to get the best file
What HD does not mean here
- It does not mean upscaling. We return what X stored, not a re-invented image.
- It does not mean removing the creator's own overlays — if the poster burned in text, that text is part of the video.
- It does not bypass privacy. A protected account's media cannot be read by any browser tool, and we do not pretend otherwise.
What you end up with
An MP4 that keeps its original audio track, plays on any phone or desktop, and does not carry the X interface around its edges — because it is the video file, not a recording of the app.
